Sunday, December 24, 2006 Christmas Eve It's this time of the year again. Tampines will always be damn jampacked in the shopping centres, it's only worse this year as IKEA n Courts Megastore are opened besides the two big shopping centres at central. Cars are moving in slowly into the small driveway outside Tampines Mall, with the queue stretching all the way to the previous traffic junction. It only gets worse when it's raining. Talking about rain, Singapore experienced its third highest rainfall in 75 years earlier this week. The rain was pouring crazily over a period of close to 48hrs before the sky decided to turn off the tap. It was so heavy that MacRitchie Reservoir overflowed severely n flooded the whole stretch of Olive Road n many parts of Thomson Road. Property loss in those areas were estimated to be in millions according to the news. Thank god flooding won't happen so easily at where i live. Driving in such heavy rainfall at night do need extra focus, with my speedometer barely hitting 60km/h. The rain has subsided now but the damage it has done is bad enough. Malaysia's Johor state is badly hit with floods at the moment. They experienced the highest rainfall in 100yrs. Traffic was at a standstill n the trains couldn't move due to floods n mudslides in some areas. All these damages are going to take months to recover. It's raining here, but England is experiencing another bitterly cold winter period. I watched the match between Liverpool & Watford on TV last night. The temperatures at Merseyside fell well below 5 degrees Celsius n numerous players were wearing winter gloves to keep themselves warm. Sometimes, I really take my hat off to the premiership players. I mean, how the hell they endure such extreme temperatures n continue playing delightful football to entertain us? I would certainly be cuddling in bed beside the fireplace at that kind of temperature. The English Premier League is the toughest league in Europe. When all other leagues are having the winter break, the teams in EPL are gonna play FOUR matches in a span of TEN days. That's approximately a match every 2.5days, in THAT kind of weather. Imagine the strain on the players. There will be matches on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Eve n New Year's Day. Crazy huh? I hope none of my Liverpool players will suffer any serious injuries during this period. The Reds beat The Hornets 2-0 at Anfield last night, but they were made to sweat for the hard earned victory. Watford were strong n powerful n posed great threat in set pieces. It was not until the 88th minute that i breathed a huge sigh of relieve when Xabi Alonso curled in an amazing shot from 25yards to seal the victory. In other matches, Arsenal destroyed Blackburn 6-2, Man Utd won Villa 3-0 convincingly with Ronaldo scoring a brace, n Chelsea needing a last minutes magic from Arjen Robben to steal 3points at the JJB Stadium from Wigan Athletic with a 3-2 scoreline. 17h December, Sunday Went kayaking at Bedok Reservoir to help friend Denis be the safety boat for his dragonboat session.
