Thursday, December 21, 2006 Contenders Back to soccer. I was so disappointed that the League Cup match between Arsenal n Liverpool on Wednesday morning was postponed due to fog in Anfield. I was eagerly waiting to see Liverpool beat the Gunners n destroy them at Anfield after watching Arsenal thrash Liverpool 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium 2months ago. Now it's been postponed to 9th January, 3 days after the 2 teams meet in the FA Cup. It's weird isn't it? Playing the same team twice within 3 days. That aside, Liverpool had been drawn with the current Champions League holders Barcelona in the knockout stages of this seasons Champions League. This mouth watering clash will occur only in February when the competition resumes from the winter break. It's good in a way that it'll be an interesting match, bad in a way that a world class team like Barcelona might jeopardise Liverpool's chances of progressing into the quarter-finals. Well, I'm sure I won't miss the 2-legged tie when it comes to February. I'll be waiting.. Last thing about soccer. I've been keeping track on the contenders for Goal of The Season this EPL season. And so far, I've seen quite a few of them. U'll have to see the videos of the fantastic goals. I love beautiful goals~~!! This is Matthew Taylor of Portsmouth. He's a left back n he scores great goals. His powerful volley took my breath away Next up is Robin Van Persie of Arsenal. It's another volley from this 21 year old, his 2nd goal in the match against relegation threatened Charlton Athletic Here comes Xabi Alonso, the great passer in the Liverpool team. I think this goal finally put David Beckham's half-line goal to rest. A strike from a total of 65yards, astonishing!! This one is from the recent big match between Arsenal n Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. When Flamini put the Gunners 1-0 at the 78th minute, everyone thought Chelsea is finally going to lose at their home ground. NO, says Essien, as he unleashed a fierce shot in the 84th minute that beats Jens Lehmann. Last one, from another Chelsea player. Chelsea played Everton over the last weekend n had to come back from behind twice through Michael Ballack n Frank Lampard. With the score tied at 2-2, on-form Chelsea striker, Didier Drogba, had another idea. He receives a knock down from Shevchenko, chested the ball n let fly a fierce turning volley to bring Chelsea fans into raptures. They won the match 3-2 n reduced the gap with Man Utd to 2points. Great stuff from the Ivorian i must say |
