    Maccabi Haifa 1-1 Liverpool

It's almost 2am, i guess i should be sleeping soon cos school starts at 9am in the morning later. First of all, my beloved Liverpool is through to the group stages of the Champions League after drawing with Israeli champion in Kiev. The match was moved to Kiev due to the unrest in the Middle East. Liverpool dominated the first half but was unable to kill the game due to Maccabi's resilience. The opening only came in the 54th minute when Peter Crouch headed in a cross by Jermaine Pennant at the far post. However, the opposition equalised only 9minutes later when Pepe Reina could only parry a fierce shot n Maccabi player Roberto Colautti slotted in the rebound. The Reds had to endure a series of scares late on in the game but held on for a draw which brought them through with a aggregate of 3-2. Not one of the best match to watch, but my team went through. Phew....

I saw a news article yesterday.

    --------------------
Sports car hits taxis and lamp post, driver killed A YOUNG man dropped off his girlfriend at her home in the River Valley area yesterday morning, then headed out to Tuas to meet some friends. He never made it there. Mr Lim Wen Chang, 23, was involved in a fatal accident on Pioneer Road, which left his Subaru WRX a mangled mess. The sports car had careened out of control at 12.35am and hit two taxis parked by the side of the road, a lamp post and two trees. The impact was so great that the lamp post was bent in half and both trees were uprooted. Mr Lim suffered multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene at 12.50am. The two cabbies, resting in their vehicles at the time, were unhurt. A report in Lianhe Wanbao said Mr Lim was the only son of a couple who live in Yio Chu Kang. He was to study business administration in London next year. The year-old car was a gift from his businessman father. His was the second fatal road accident in that area in three days. On Sunday, motorcyclist Teo Kok Chye, 52, died after slamming into the side of a private bus at the T-junction between Gul Road and Pioneer Sector Walk. The Traffic Police are appealing for eyewitnesses to call them on 1800-5471818
    --------------------

It's another case of reckless young driver. Young n rash? Perhaps... I'm a young driver myself n i understand the thrills of speeding. But this is really a sad case. I guess the victim's dad must be blaming himself for buying that Subaru WRX for his son. Yeah. this car may be a road going rally car, but it has its limits too. A turbocharged 200bhp car to not a toy car. Looking at the crash, he must be going more than 130kmh at least. 23yr old, a bright future ahead of him, the only son, all gone.

Mum used this case n warned me about safe driving. Well, I'm certainly not a reckless driver, but i can get pretty impatient at times. I won't hesitate to use the horn when some errant drivers change lanes abruptly. I've encountered many of such cases, some even almost causing me to crash into their vehicle. Pissed that they see me as a "P" Plate driver n bully me. Heck, I may be "P" plate, but I'm no noob.

As for speeding, it can be tempting when u see a whole stretch of empty road in front of u, especially during the wee hours. Not that i haven't sped before. However, speeding is really dangerous. Moving at such high speed requires skills n quick reflexes whenever something crop up. How many drivers on the road can claim they have the driving ability of a rally car racer? Not many. Thrill at the price of a life, or even lives. Worth it? I once hit 120kmh along the expressway unknowingly. When i started passing every car with ease, i checked my speedometer. It was then i realise I was way past the limit. Thoughts of my family, girlfriend n friends took my foot off the pedal.

A car's function is to bring u from point A to point B. Your purpose is to reach your destination safely, no point speeding n endanger your life as well as those around u. Otherwise, u may find yourself never reaching your destination n bringing immense despair to those who care for u.
