Saturday, September 05, 2009 Kindergarten Ystd was really a great day. I dunno, but the little kids juz make me feel happy. Went to Tanjong Pagar Plaza early in the morning to do my field trip assignment alongside Lingwei n Su Yuen. It was a PAP kindergarten which we were visiting as our project's target users are young learning kids. Phew, it was so tough getting permission from PCF to allow us for the visit, but thank god i managed to convince them after a week of numerous email exchanges. The kids are 6yrs of age in K2 level. They're still so cute, so innocent, so small, so obedient, n juz so lovable. It's hard to imagine they're going into primary one less than 6months later. N i realised the class lesson now is so much more different as compared to my time almost 2 decades ago(gasp!). There were only like 20 students? My time was easily 2 times of that. Lesson was very much 2-way, with the teacher n students interacting actively. The kids are really intelligent, n their English is goooooood. One very funny thing happened when the teacher was abt to tell a story to the kids. Teacher: Ok children, today i'm going to tell a story. It has something to do with an animal. Children: What is it?!! Teacher: Ok.. It's Yellow n colour, n it swims, or it swims most of the time! Me n Lingwei were looking at each other with the "WTF" look as we couldn't figure out wad the animal was.. Haha, that was when the children shouted out the answer.. Children: DUCK!!!! Teacher: Very good!! Yes, D-U-C-K, duck! Me: (laughing along with Lingwei) Ok, i think we're too realistic n 4got duck is yellow in story books Su Yuen: U guys fail la!! Kindergarten kids are cleverer than NUS undergrads.. hahaha!! We spent close to two hours there, observing the kids on how they learn, how they play n how they interact with each other... Some nice condo outside Tanjong Pagar mrt Duxton, Singapore's most expensive HDB flats Righ smack in the middle of CBD Playground outside the kindergarten I didn't noe there's a HDB flat in the CBD Outside I'm in!! -- teacher spelling D-U-C-K on the board Works of the kids Little corners for free play -- Started on the paper duck -- -- Colouring -- they even haf computers now.. N according to the teacher, they're experts at it -- -- -- Su Yuen interviewing the teacher -- -- N i went to check out the mini toilet I saw a blue duck then a pink duck N a purple duck N she has nail polish -- -- -- -- -- -- Building blocks -- The 3 of us then made a super duck for them!! Me being the Smallville junkie, it's owas gotta be Superman Lunch after that at a foodcentre nearby -- back in school to do our presentation.. Class finally ended after 3hrs.. But we were not done yet.. Further group meeting... Kids are so lovely when they're young... After the visit, i really feel like working as an educator for young kids.. It's so much better than the adult world, where everything is so complicated, full of daggers n totally unsafe. Heh.. On a side note, i can't stand these substandard quality pics taken by my T-33 anymore. the colour is TOTALLY OFF!! N it seriously turns me off!! I think i'll get a new digicam within the next week or so. Comex is coming this Thursday! Nikon S220. I'm not so loaded now to afford a Sony T-series camera, so I guess this is the best i can get.. Will see how things turn out.. |
