    Busy Busy Busy

It was my 1st day of work today at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. To my surprise, my ex-temasek secondary school mate got into the same job as me. What a coincidence huh? Even though we don't really talk in school back in those days, he seems to be a nice guy. I was in Sec4/1 n he was in Sec4/2. This guy is damn clever, scoring great results for his A-Level n even got into his dream course of Pharmacy in NUS. This job couldn't suit him any better.

The pharmacy is a very interesting place full of all sorts of drugs. Really, if u want to kill yourself, simply pop any 5 different pills u can find in there. Haha.. Just joking. Initally, it was hard catching up during the peak hours. The medication orders come non-stop for like 2 whole hours. I didn't even have the time to look at my watch. It was total end to end stuff.

After today, I have a better idea of how the whole process goes. The pharmacist will type in all the medication a patient needs into a computer. Then, the computer will send the information to the printer, which prints out the medication n instructions onto the stickers. I will then take the stickers, find the right drugs n put it into a plastic ziplock bag n paste the sticker on it. The ziplock bag will be put onto a conveyor belt which goes directly to another pharmacist, who will double check to see if the medication is the right one. Only when everything is done, then it will go to the patient that is waiting outside with a queue number.

Haha, now I know why waiting for my prescribed medication takes so long. It actually involves so many steps. I was so afraid that I would take the wrong drugs the whole of today. Especially during the peak hours, I'll have to be fast & accurate. There's no room for mistake.

It's kinda weird working in a female environment. The pharmacy seriously lacks the male gender. ALL of the pharmacists are female. Sheesh.. Even the people doing my job are females. They're all waiting to get their posting results into the Universities.

The job is very tiring for I have to stand all the time, but it's fun learning the various drugs. The people around are nice too. Hospital is a good place to work in I must say.
