Sunday, July 15, 2012 Joy Flight
Last month, I was very fortunate to be selected for a joy flight in Johor, Malaysia, organised by Capt Eric. I've always haboured hopes of reaching the skies since 2003 when I was bitten by the flying bug. Wanted to get into the SYFC but my eyesight couldn't qualify, so that means i didn't bother trying for the RSAF either during my NS days. I shelved this little ambition of mine for a period of time while I was juggling the heavy school work in 4yrs of university. When i finally graduate, the very first interview i went for was the SIA pilot cadetship. Needless to say, I didn't get in; got rejected on the first round. Subsequently, tried for the Jetstar cadetship but was chopped in the final round(Wad da heck!). I noe my chances are getting lesser n lesser, plus with age catching up on me, i gotta make the decision on whether i wanna carry on pursuing this pretty far fetched dream or simply continue n do my best in the current industry i'm working in. Shd i go for a Private Pilot Licence, which costs abt $12K n just fly for leisure, or shd I dump roughly $140K for a CPL/ATPL n pray that some airline is willing to give me a job, which is enormously risky. I ask myself everyday, wad do i want in life. Do i want a life i yearn but full of uncertainty, or do i want a life that's stable, a tried n tested path.
