Thursday, February 28, 2008 Alternative Had dinner with MQ just now. Usually, when we're having some sushi crave, we'll conveniently pop over to Genki sushi to get our sushi fix. However, it's inevitable dat a meal in the restaurant cost over $20. We being poor students, dat's quite a big amount considering that a meal in the food court will cost at most $4 for each of us. N so we came out with this idea of getting our own sushi when we saw the sushi stall at Giant supermart in Tampines. They're cheap, but most importantly, their quality is good and the taste definitely won't lose out to Genki! Instead of going Genki juz now, we went Giant n bought $13.90 worth of sushi from there. I must say dat it's really affordable, with the price a good $10 cheaper than going to the restaurant. Wad's missing was the miso soup & chawanmushi. Other than dat, it's mostly the same, except dat u wun get fanciful shoft-shell crab sushi n a train belt moving in front of ur dining table. $13.90 worth of sushi JI Leader Escapes MORE than 100 SAF soldiers have joined the island-wide manhount for Singapore's most wanted man, Mas Selamat Kastari, the leader of the Singapore Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) network, who escaped from detention on Wednesday afternoon. The SAF military police and guardsmen were brought in at about 6.30 am on Thursday to beef up the huge security blockcade around the wooded Malcolm Park, near the Singapore Chinese Girls' School and the vicinity. They arrived in a convoy, which included a 5-tonner truck, several Land rovers, and quickly took up positions along with the hundreds of police, special operations and Gurkha forces that have been massing overnight in the area near the Whitley Road Detention Centre, where the JI militant fled at about 4.05 pm on Wednesday, sparking the biggest island-wide manhunt. Residents leaving the areas near Goldhill Avenue, Barker Road and Malcolm Park, had their cars scrutinised and even had to open their boots on Thursday morning, causing a long traffic tailback along Dunean Road. Students of SCGS, St Joseph Institution and Anglo Chinese School were advised by their principals and teachers to stay calm and vigilant and told of why they were surrounded by a strong police presence. But this was not reassuring enough for many parents who decided to pull their children out of school for the day. One mother, who would only give her name as Ms Tan, said she was taking her primary school daughter home because she felt 'uneasy' and preferred to have the girl at home. In SCGS alone, more than half a dozen parents were seen leaving with their daughters when they were told of the manhunt for the runaway terror leader. All the schools in the vicinity were carefully combed by the police forces before the students turned up. The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a brief statement on Wednesday night about the escaped leader. It said Mas Selamat walks with a limp, and was not believed to be armed. The escaped terror leader, 47, took over as head of the JI network here in 1999, and later plotted to crash a hijacked plane into Changi Airport. Officers seen checking houses, vehicles Late on Wednesday night, officers with flashlights were seen going house to house along Malcolm Road, near St Joseph's Institution and behind Catholic Junior College, questioning residents and checking the leafy neighbourhood. Elsewhere, officers stopped vehicles at roadblocks questioned residents, and showed pictures of Mas Selamat. The alert also went out to all border checkpoints, the Police Coast Guard, and even taxi companies, which broadcast a message to cabbies telling them to look out for the suspect. Scores of plainclothes police officers also swarmed convenience stores and petrol stations, going through the leafy neighbourhood. The lockdown, from late afternoon through the night, gave the whole area an almost surreal feel, with scores of police vehicles flashing blue and white lights lined up along the roads. There were roadblocks at several areas, and grim-faced personnel, their neon green work vests glowing in the glare of lights, checked car boots and spoke urgently into walkie-talkies. The huge uniformed presence signalled immediately to residents of the affected areas that something big was going on. Some residents worried Mrs Jasmine Lim, 42, whose car was checked as she entered Goldhill Estate where she lives, said some residents were worried. The mother of four said she called her two older children, aged 22 and 19, and told them to get home early. 'I have a security alarm that I normally don't activate so early, but tonight I will,' she said. Senior accounts manager Terry Chia, 44, said police stopped him on his way home and showed him a picture of Mas Selamat. He did not think anything of it at the time, but said he began to worry when he learnt that the escapee was a JI detainee. The Indonesian-born JI leader escaped a dragnet that resulted in the detention of 13 JI members here in December 2001. The group had been planning to attack targets here. While in hiding, Mas Selamat plotted to hijack a plane and crash it into Changi Airport. The plot was foiled. He was arrested in Indonesia twice, before being handed over to Singapore in February 2006, and has been detained under the Internal Security Act since March that year. http://www.straitstimes.com/Latest%2...ry_211339.html The news i recorded just now on TV Please stay vigilant and keep an eye on lookout for him. Singaporeans are a bunch of people who are not wary of danger, cos they usually are very safe/ignorant. This will serve as a test to us. Let's hope he do no damage during his escape, or else, the Singapore Police Force will have alot of answering to do. To residents residing near the incident site, DON'T ASSUME you'll be safe cos of the number of police/soldiers/gurkhas surrounding the area, only stupid people will think that way. The man is in the DARK, you're in the LIGHT. All it needs it juz a bomb planted by the leader's followers to kill u. Feel safe?? HELL NO!! Wednesday, February 27, 2008 Heat Ah.. Haven been feeling so hot for a damn long time. Singapore's weather has juz taken a turn into "summer" temperatures. Those cold windy days n nights seems to have passed and we're now being greeted with bright sunny days! With the higher temperatures come more mosquito breeding, which I found out the hard way last night. I was being tormented by a bloody mozzie for the whole night. To prevent it from biting me, I wrapped myself with blanket like a cocoon. That didn't undermine the mozzie n she kept hovering around my ears. I guess she's tired of living eh? When I finally had enough at 6.30am in the morning, I woke up, switched on my lights n armed myself with SHELTOX. N so i sat in front of my PC waiting for it to attack me. Stupidly enough, she did so n received a few thunder sprays of SHELTOX from me. GOOD GAME She was struggling after her fall from grace n i watched her die a painful death. That's for stinging me the whole night u SUCKER!!!@! Consequence of sucking my blood go to hell Tuesday, February 26, 2008 More Food Haha, I'm back, with more pictures of food. Thursday, February 21, 2008 15th Today is the 15th of the first month in Lunar calendar, which also marks the end of Chinese New Year. This significant day is also known as the Valentines' Day of the Chinese. Haha.. Long story actually.. Had a "reunion" dinner ystd as a family as today wasn't possible. It's a tradition to stay n eat as a family during the last day of CNY. It'll ensure that the whole family will stay united together for the rest of the Lunar year. =) some pork ribs mushrooms with sea cucumber tofu(fried) deer meat Prawn with veg Today I have a pretty special tutor for one of my Computing modules that I'm taking this semester. His name is Pasha, n he's a Russian. I was quite amazed that School of Computing actually had a Russian student b4. Well, i've seen lots of China men n Vietnamese but he's the first Russian i've seen. How cool is dat eh? N during my tutorial today, he wore a red top with blue jeans. Gosh, let me tell u, he looks like the Clark Kent(Tom Welling) in Smallville!!! Ok maybe his hair is not the same n he's not as tall(but he's still pretty tall), but i think he has the closest resemblance I've ever seen. Somehow, attending his class made me feel like i'm Lex Luthor(cos i'm currently botak). Haha... SoC may be boring at times, but there's still some surprises around... Edison Quits HONG KONG - HONG KONG singer and actor Edison Chen said on Thursday that he would step away from the Hong Kong entertainment industry, in his first public appearance since a nude picture scandal broke in January. 'I've decided to step away from the Hong Kong entertainment industry,' Chen told reporters, while apologising to Hong Kong for the scandal which has drawn blanket media coverage over several weeks. He said in a brief statement he would fulfil existing commitments before stepping down 'indefinitely'. It has been reported in China Press that Chen attempted suicide after the nude photos of him and several Hong Kong starlets started circulating the Internet. The 28-year-old singer and actor fled to the United States after the controversy erupted. It is also reported that he refused to eat and have confined himself to his home. Several companies have terminated their contracts with the star after the scandal came to light. The photos started appearing on the Internet after Chen sent his computer in for repairs. Hong Kong triads were said to want actor Chen dead after the scandal spread, with racy photos of more starlets including Bobo Chan and Twins singer Gillian Chang were posted on the Net. Word has it that an underworld figure has offered a HK$500,000 (S$128,000) reward to hack off one of his hands, reported Apple Daily Hong Kong. Apple Daily HK, quoting a police source, reported that someone is planning to harm Chen when he returns. video conference HERE My Opinion? It's a waste as he's really got talent n the charisma. Remember the suave Ryosuke Takahashi he acted as in HK movie Initial D(2005)? I was hoping for a sequel, but I think maybe not after this incident. Let's just say this whole incident is down to technological ignorance. Handsome looking he may be, but I guess he know nuts about computers. As a man, I take my hat off him for being able to bed so many different female celebrities. But as a computer/technology enthusiast, I have to laugh at him for being so careless. Yeah, take all the "artistic" photos u want, keep as many as u like since u like to browse through them during ur free time or occasionally view them as ur trophies. But when ur computer spoils, deleting the pictures wun render them unrecoverable. Didn't he hear of data recovery services?? Juz too bad for him if he hadn't heard of such a service. Then this is the price he has to pay. Goodbye Edison, I hope u can continue with ur life in the West after this. Hopefully there won't be any news of your arm getting hacked off in the future. Good luck to u.. Sunday, February 17, 2008 24 Went for the little gathering at Lesley's place ystd to celebrate her bdae n oso a small meet up for CNY.
