Saturday, December 10, 2005 Last night's draw in Leipzig had decided the groups of the World Cup Finals to be held in Germany.. Here it is.. Group A Costa Rica Ecuador Germany Poland The host, Germany, definitely has a high chance of progressing into the last 16. I'll expect Poland to take the 2nd qualifying spot. Group B England Paraguay Sweden Trinidad & Tobago Easy group for England, with Sweden looking the only threat. They drew 1-1 when they met in the group stages of World Cup 2002. Group C Argentina Ivory Coast Netherlands Serbia & Montenegro Heavy weights Argentina n Netherlands are expected to go through without much problem. Keep an eye on Ivory Coast with Didier Drogba of Chelsea spear-heading the attack n Kolo Toure of Arsenal shoring up the defence. Group D Angola Iran Mexico Portugal Iran n Angola are not good enough to create any trouble, but Angola is an unknown whose strengths cannot be underestimated. Portugal will have Luis Figo back this time round. Who wants to see Christiano Ronaldo strip again, like what he did during Euro 2004? Group E Czech Replublic Ghana Italy United States A tough group. Ghana is far by the most talented African team with Michael Essien the main dangerman. Czech, Italy n the United States are filled with talented players. This group will be the one to watch. Group F Australia Brazil Croatia Japan An interesting situation here. Asia champion, Japan, is being grouped with the 6 time world champion, Brazil, n Oceania champion, Australia. Croatia will struggle. Group G France South Korea Switzerland Togo Will last world cup's semi finalist South Korea repeat history again? France will welcome back Zinedine Zidane for his last hoorah at the world stage. Switzerland will be the dark horse. Although under-performing for such a long time, France is expected to win the group. Togo? Can u help me find the nation in the Africa continent? Group H Saudi Arabia Spain Tunisia Ukraine Saudi Arabia will have to forget their 8-0 thrashing by Germany in the opening game 4 yrs ago, it has been haunting them since then. Spain will be winners of the group IF they decide to switch on their talents. The 2nd spot of the group is pretty open, with the rest of the 3 teams having a chance of clinching it. |
