Hurricane Wilma, a Cat 3 storm, packing 200km/h winds hit southwest Florida early ystd morning n roared across the peninsula, pounding Miami, Fort Lauderdale n West Palm Beach. Sheesh, this is the 3rd storm that battered the US this yr. The weird thing is, at least 90% of Florida Keys resident refused to evacuate. The storm flooded 35% of Key West, including the airport. Luckily the storm weakened to Cat 2 with 177km/h winds within 2.5 hours of coming ashore.

Those people who stayed behind were really lucky this time round. Hai.. Nobody can beat Mother Nature. I’ve never experienced a hurricane b4, but I’ve seen documentaries about it. It’s super scary, even if u stay indoor. You’ll hear deafening howling noises that give u goosebumps. High speed winds n high tidal waves are capable of ANYTHING. Blowing animals away n ripping off roofs are just some of its frightful deeds. Really hope all these storms will die down soon. The situation of high oil prices will also improve if oil rigs of the southeast coast of the US are safe from the hurricanes.

Office duty ystd. As usual, boring. My company OC (officer in command), Captain Lim, suddenly brought his own PC into the office in the afternoon. It crashed n he’s trying to use our company’s “resources” to help him solve the problem. This sergeant in the office went to his help immediately. Haha, office politics, he’s sucking up on him, or else who would help him? I sat there, enjoying the show n acting blur. I never like my company’s OC. He’s one officer that does redundant things, n that makes our lives difficult. In the end, more people went to help, but to no avail. The PC refused to come back to life. After having only 2 hours of sleep on Sunday night, I was super shack out ystd. These people were disturbing the peace I needed. Fed up, I went to check it out. That sergeant knew shit; he’s just there to put up a show, “wayang” as we put it in the army. I took a look, took out the RAM n switched the slot. That stupid sergeant still said “You take out the RAM for fuck?!” Bloody hell… If his rank is not higher than my corporal rank, I would have shown him my finger, which is sure longer than his dick.

I powered up the PC, n it came back to life. Heh, that idiot got nothing to say, giving me the “What’s the big deal?” look. I gave him a fierce stare n walked away. OC was so impressed, he gave me a tap on my shoulder saying “well done!”. Haha, I asked for 5 days off as reward, but he didn’t agree of cos. I was speaking in a joking tone anyway. Problem solved, I went back to my chair n continue enjoying the peace.

I was only off duty this morning. There’s a National Education Tour today for my company. If not for duty, I would have come back home ystd night. I rushed down to the ICA (Immigration & Checkpoints Authority) building at Lavender after duty this morning. The tour was interesting, at least better than last yr’s when we went Chinatown n Little India. The ICA is responsible for the safety of Singapore by ensuring no illegal or contraband items enter our land. The tour ended at 11.30am n I went Sim Lim Square with my platoon mates. It’s the 2nd time I’ve been there in 5 days. Bought some stuff n had lunch, then I head down to CDC for my Basic Theory Test.

I was quite nervous, fearing I would fail the test. To make things worse, I was being assigned to a crappy computer station. On my left n right sat a Hokkien speaking uncle n a 28yr old office lady (saw her ic no.). This uncle can’t understand English n kept bugging me to translate what the invigilator is talking about. Then, this office lady was pretty well dressed, but when she sat down, u get a “peek-a-boo” situation. Throughout the whole test, I was distracted by these 2 people. Can’t stand it anymore, I completed the test within 7min n rushed outta room. Thank god I passed. Then, it took me a stupid 2hrs to apply for my Provisional Driving License (PDL). I was sitting at the waiting area, rotting away.

Now I’ve got my PDL, I can start learning how to drive with an instructor. Hope things will go smoothly all the way till I get my Qualified Driving License. Gotta book in later. Half day tmr in camp. There’s a company cohesion activity at Bukit Timah. We’re playing pool. It’s gonna be fun…
